Oceanspray (Holodiscus discolor) is deciduous shrub with multiple stems, and can reach up to 12 – 20 feet (4 – 7m) tall. It likes dry to moist open forest or coastal bluffs in low to middle elevations. It has alternate, oval to triangular leaves that are lobed or coarsely toothed. The flowers are cream to white in drooping clusters that turn brown and remain on the plant over winter. I read that Bushtits like to use it to make their nests in. It is a lovely shrub to have in your garden if you have the room.
