Pacific Bleeding Heart

Pacific Bleeding Heart

The Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa) is a herbaceous perennial that spreads by rhizomes and can carpet the ground within moist forest areas. A very beautiful spring show with their drooping pink heart-shaped flowers. They are fragile and best not to walk on them. They grow about 6″ to 12″ (15 to 30 cm) tall, and die back in winter. They like part shade and moist, humus-rich soil. Great for a shade garden. Good for pollinators and hummingbirds.
