Vanilla-Leaf

Vanilla-Leaf (Achlys triphylla) is a woodland perennial that spreads by rhizomes making a beautiful ground cover. It sends up individual stocks with 3 fan-shaped leaflets held horizontally. The flowers are small and white on a stalk held above the leaves as a showy white spike. It likes moist, shady forests, openings and forest edges. “It gets its name from its vanilla scent when dried and was used as an insect repellent and dried and hung in bundles in the home for its sweet scent.” Plants of Coastal British Columbia
