Lupines

Arctic Lupine

Lupines belong to the legume or pea family, Fabaceae. Both the Large-leaved Lupine (Lupinus polyplyllus) and the Arctic Lupine (Lupinus arcticus) are common plants to the southwest corner of BC. The Large-leaved Lupine grows up to 3′ to 4′ tall (1m to 1.25m) and are much larger than the Arctic Lupine which only grows up to about 2′ (60cm) tall. The Large-leaved Lupine like more moist to wet open areas from low to middle elevation where the Arctic Lupine likes moist to drier open sites and are more common in middle to subalpine elevations.
