Blanket Flower
Blanket flower or Firewheel (Gailardia pulchella) is an annual and belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is native to south-central United States and northern Mexico. This one is common in garden stores, though I found it in Boundary Bay Park, in Tsawwassen, BC. It likes full sun and well-drained sandy soils, and grows to about 18″ tall and about the same in width. It blooms from summer through fall; deadheading will keep it flowering. Gailardia aristata is native to North America and has yellow flowers. In a full-sun bed, it would work well with Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) or Brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba) , and Crocosmia. West Coast Seeds sells the seed for Blanket flower and Black-eyed Susan.
