Goldenrod

Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) is a herbaceous perennial, that belongs to the Asteraceae family. It has tall leafy single stems from 2′ to 5′ (40 to 150cm) tall topped with a plume of yellow flowers. They spread by creeping rhizomes and can form large thickets. They like full-sun and grow in dry to wet areas, and bloom mid summer to fall and are a good pollinator plant. Goldenrod is a good source of nectar and pollen before winter. Honey made from mostly goldenrod is darker and has its own distinct flavour.
